Terroir

It is easy to ask why it matters. And that is a valid question.
It doesn't. Creativity will always find a path. Passion surfaces in the most unexpected places and ways. Events run, classes impart information, recipes give instruction and menus showcase food.
To inspire, to excite and to evoke, however, takes something more. A quality. A peaceful acceptance that personality is more valuable than what is practical or necessary.
Terroir.
As with everything of value, terroir is a living, breathing space — capturing a moment in time never to be repeated. Perfect through its imperfections and soon to be outdated as heritage is built upon, environments shift and craft develops.
Terroir is the sum of its parts, but it has harmony.
Without harmony each part jostles for position, competing for attention. Acceptance is the path to harmony — acceptance that there are no kings, no matter the input. Everything is needed. Everything has purpose as part of the whole, for nothing exists in isolation.
Harmony shows itself through terroir as a feeling that cannot be replicated or repeated. The perfect evening. The buzz of excitement as flavour captures the soul of a season. The moment everything just clicks.
This singular moment comes and goes just as quickly — demanding energy and focus as much as it does a passive resilience to adapt and reform. Terroir is as endlessly repeatable as it is a singular moment, as long as harmony is respected. To give into a situation rather than trying to shape it.
Harmony.
Heritage. Environment. Craft.
Terroir is the sum of its parts. Nothing exists in isolation.
