Without respecting environment, personality becomes cluttered and without direction. Craft has no clear path to follow, drifting from the brief and losing intent. Character and humanity become diminished — emotion and passion confused and misplaced.

This is more often than not felt rather than seen. Hollow. Without resonance.

Environment is the world around us that informs decisions.

Providing boundaries to the choices we make, however constrained or far reaching.

Choices inform action and action is only achievable when in harmony with the environment presented.

Environment in turn informs consequence and provides reality to aspirations in a very physical and real way.

Constraints and boundaries are not a negative. They provide direction and focus to creativity — bringing it to life through a defined purpose. In this way environment brings definition to passion and creativity.

Environment is not simply the physical world defined by nature, as is often assumed. It is notably the economic, social, political and cultural world too. Scale is also vital — from the very local and personal, all the way to the planet, and every variation in between.

The skill begins not with food but with questions. The what, the who, the where and the when. Only then is what is achievable known. Only then can the environment be truly respected.

What follows must remain relevant — not attached to personal preference or ego, but relevant to the environment it finds itself in. This keeps it achievable, without strain or pressure. Space must always be left for adaptation.

When all of this comes together, what remains is felt rather than explained — regardless of where or how it arrives.
